Since Wes has confirmed it was his album, I guess Crystal Machete deserves its own thread.

What do you think about it, then ?

For the most part, I find it pretty average and unappealing.

The Cliffs is the only stand-out. I've always loved Wes' ambient tracks, and this one doesn't disappoint whatsoever.

End Credits is also quite enjoyable when you hear Wes' clean guitar.

Same for Jubilee.

Vltava has a Twin Peaks vibe at times.

Crystal Machete are White Stallion are horrible.

This album is probably Wes' rebound from his working relationship with Fred/Limp Bizkit, where his shit just got shelved/canned over and over again. He probably felt like releasing something, and this album is the first thing he came up with while he tried recording stuff on his own.

It's not my type of music and it would be unfair for me to rate it. I don't like it but not because it's bad, just because I would not listen to this type of stuff. It does feel like a soundtrack though, don't know if it is one (probably not, considering his comments on it), but it could work as one.

I have listened to it a couple of times and I really enjoy it.  It's good music to fall asleep listening to.

hahaha, not sure if that's something to be proud of. Crystal Machete and Palms are probably the best at that then

I love it, but I've always enjoyed lots of 'abstract' instrumental music. I like that he really put himself out of his comfort zone (at least compared to his guitar work, which is at a point where it all sounds the same).

I've listened to it a lot over the last few days.

Reprise is one of the best tracks, for obvious reasons. The Cliffs and End Credits are great and I also love the first two tracks (forget their names).

I enjoy the first half of Main Titles quite a lot, but not the second half.

Reprise, to me, is the most "soundtrack" sounding tune. I could totally hear it in a dreamy Rectify scene.

I had no idea Wes liked electro music so much.

All in all, even though some of the music is definitely not for me, I'm glad Wes is releasing music again.

PS : I can't get enough of the Cliffs.

At first I didn't like it at all. But after listening to it some more there are quite a few gems on there. Especially The Cliffs is very very good. I still can't stand White Stallion and Sayonara Big C.

My favorites are Jubliee, Son of a Gun, The Cliffs and End Credits.

I know what Stalemate means about it being something good to put on to fall asleep to.  That's not a negative though for me though, seeing as the album is going for a mostly pretty chill vibe.  I used to love listening to I Am Where It Takes Me by BLB to fall asleep to, that was such a hypnotic track.

Overall, I think it's pretty cool that he did pretty much everything for this himself in his new studio.  I think it's a pretty good advertisement for his producing skills in terms of getting clients for his studio.  The record sounds very crisp and professional, but has a decidedly "live" feel with little mistakes and imperfections left in there.  I think it shows that he'd probably be a very good producer for indie bands who are after that more organic sound.

Yeah I didn't mean good music to fall asleep to in a bad way, the music isn't boring it's just very chilled and relaxed so it's easy to drift off.  Main Titles is my favorite track at the moment.  I need to listen to the second half of the album again as I keep falling asleep, I'm going to give it a listen on my walk home from work tonight.

The Cliffs and End Credits - great tracks. Ambient Wes really speaks to me and I know some of you feel the same way. The other tracks sound like a soundtrack to a Super Nintendo game but props and respect to Wes for this project - a breath of fresh air. Intrigued to hear what's next.

Guitar tab for The Cliffs. This is what I transcribed up until now. Sounds about right. Feel free to contribute.

Standard Tuning

Edit. Woah, the format is fucked.

I'll do vocals over it. It'll be a D-cent & Wes Borland collab.
